Beethoven Diabelli Variations

32 Variations in C minor (Stereophile)

The long-awaited follow-up to Robert Silverman's acclaimed 10-CD set of the complete sonatas of Beethoven is now available from Stereophile. It was recorded in Utah in 2004 in high-resolution DSD, using the famed Kimber Iso-Mike.

Here's what US critic Wes Phillips has written on his blog:

Performances you could listen to for years and never reach the limit of their possibilities....if you really want the two richest hours of piano music ever recorded, I'd suggest you buy Glenn Gould's Goldberg Variations and Bob Silverman's Diabelli Variations.()

(and you wonder why Bob likes Roy Orbison so much?)

Aaron Copland: Piano Sonata, Passacaglia, 4 Piano Blues, Cat and the Mouse (Marquis Classics)

One of Silverman's most acclaimed LPs of the early 1970, this astonishing recording launched Silverman's reputation as a major pianist of his generation.

"He plays it like he wrote it," raved Copland after hearing Robert Silverman perform it live.  Stereo Review (now Music and Vision) wrote "One of the most amazing displays of pianism I have heard in many a year." And on the other side of the proverbial pond, the Records and Recordings critic "went into raptures....over his intensely revealing interpretation.

Now, this long-deleted recording has been digitally mastered, and is available from Marquis Classics.
