"Silverman gives commanding but lyrically thoughtful readings of these sonatas, recorded live in concert and bristling with spontaneity. The "Moonlight" Sonata is particularly fine.."

Seattle Times (Best of 1998)

"Beethoven's travails, played out in the heat of the moment under public scrutiny, attach an impulse not possible in studio readings. Add to that an intelligent musician like Silverman, who knows his way around a narrative, and a compelling listen is in order. The Moonlight is very fine, its opening gripping in its stillness and anticipation. The Funeral March (Op. 26) is no less involving, though the close recording punches out the dotted figures in the March itself a bit forwardly. The Appassionata is more contentious, as Silverman's way may be too spacious and expansive for some, though not missing any of the music's power in the closing movement."
